Question
Can you please enlighten me as to what exactly is included in MH9 for the QoF annual review?
The obvious are smoking, alcohol, drug use, BP,cholesterol if indicated, BMI, diabetes check, cervical screening if appropriate, enquiry re cough, sputum and wheeze. There are other things under the MH Management in the guideline on vision, eg, marital status, carer details sight, hearing, etc - can these be included too?
Also should it be 4-5 of these things that are checked to count as a full review?
Asked FEB 2010.
Answer
Looking at the DoH/BMA Guidance document for 2009/10, you look to have identified all the areas which need to be covered:
"A review of physical health will therefore normally include:
- an enquiry about smoking, alcohol and drug use
- a blood pressure check
- a cholesterol check where clinically indicated
- measurement of body mass index (BMI)
- a check for the development of diabetes
- cervical screening where appropriate
- an enquiry about cough, sputum, and wheeze.
The accuracy of the record of medication prescribed by the General Practitioner and the Psychiatrist should also be checked at the same time."
It doesn't mention your being able to select only some (except where an item is clearly inappropriate), so you probably need to discuss this with your local QOF lead, unless one of the other forum members has some 'sage' advice of what is accepted as constituting a review for MH9 purposes.
For those who may not have seen it, this URL will allow you to view / download the full document (all 164 pages):
On P79 (of 164) it gives details of Mental health (MH) indicator 9, the rationale etc.
It also mentions "See also the Disability Rights Commission Equal Treatment: Closing the Gap - One year on".
